Our mission is to promote and represent the general professional and commercial interests of the wholesale and foreign trade sector for nursing and laboratory supplies.
The Laboratory Catalogue, a comprehensive compendium of laboratory equipment and consumables on offer, is published on behalf of the VGKL for its members. The VGKL’s own Laboratory Technology Platform is a wide-ranging information and data source for all member companies, providing extensive neutral price and article data for our members. The contact is Dr Axel Landgraf, MD. (For further information, click here.)

(Fundamentals of Laboratory Technology)
Basiswissen Labortechnik is a reference work for all professionals working in or for a laboratory. The book provides clear and detailed explanations of laboratory technology and the materials of laboratory consumables.
More than 50 laboratory equipment manufacturers contribute to this 380-page reference book. Individual chapters delve into the physical and chemical fundamentals of measuring techniques, specify application areas and also provide instructions. The entire range of important laboratory equipment from A to Z is explained in detail. With regard to laboratory consumables, the materials and their physical and chemical properties are discussed, as are the application areas and their limitations. Consequently, the book not only serves as a companion and valuable aid for trainees, but also as a trusted reference book for experienced employees active in laboratories or working for the laboratory specialist trade.
The book can be ordered from any VGKL member or from the VGKL Business Office.
Laboratory Technology platform
IZ GmbH, a fully owned subsidiary of VGKL, offers laboratory suppliers a fully updated Internet catalogue, which members can publish on their own webpages for their customers’ use. The catalogue can be customized in terms of design and content. To this end, we work closely with the company mydata as well as with Dr Landgraf.
The platform is currently being used by over 70 specialist suppliers in Europe to inform their own customers about their product range. It is expected that this form of product presentation will continue to gain importance within the VGKL.
In view of the fact that the overriding interest of VGKL - as a non-profit organization - is to support German companies, the membership costs are kept at a very modest level.

In particular, the book explains the following topic areas:
Laboratory Catalogue
The Laboratory Catalogue appears every three years and is exclusively available to our members. The Catalogue is highly appreciated by our member manufacturers for advertising purposes. Our specialist trade members order the catalogue so as to benefit from the concise overview and the extensive product range provided. In addition, the companies advertising in the Laboratory Catalogue are already well known, as is the quality of the products.
Goslar Specialist Course
Our members value the Goslar Specialist Course very highly. The course is organised and carried out in cooperation with our expert, Mr Schultz, and is divided into three parts and held every year.
Our members take advantage of the course to teach their employees and trainees and acquaint them with details of topics relating to the laboratory sector.
Our members also appreciate the opportunity to send employees to Goslar as speakers for the courses, as well as for product presentations.
IT Committee
The IT Committee aims to introduce application-specific features into a software program called Labosoft for its members. Labosoft was written specifically for the specialist trade and is not commercially available on the market. The VGKL supports the program and makes a major contribution to its continued development. An annual meeting is held which is attended by the program users (Perform & IZ) and serves as a platform for addressing specific topics.
The VGKL attaches great importance to qualified training in its work. The seminar series known as the Goslar Specialist Course has been held in Goslar for over 30 years. The one-week course provides training in material properties, the applications and limits of laboratory consumables, laboratory equipment as well as the functions and applications of laboratory measuring and testing equipment. Lecturers from leading German manufacturers of laboratory consumables and laboratory equipment convey knowledge grounded in actual practice. This is one of the secrets to our success which ensures that not only trainees, but also professionals from a variety of backgrounds and young employees benefit from the training offerings.
In addition, the textbook Basiswissen Labortechnik accompanies the Specialist Course with a concise presentation of the curriculum taught.
The Specialist Course and textbook impressively demonstrate the strong and active link between manufacturers and the specialist trade in the laboratory sector.
Andreas Lewonig, KÖTTERMANN
Planner – Laboratory Design and Engineering
"I not only benefited from deepening existing contacts but especially from forging new ones. We attach great importance to maintaining contact with the specialist trade. The seminar provided a professional platform for exchanging information and promoting mutual understanding. The content gave me an important insight into the use and operation of various types of laboratory equipment. As a laboratory planner, I have to know what I need to consider in planning the furniture to be fitted."
Florian Bührig, KÖTTERMANN
Planner – Laboratory Design and Engineering
"The seminar deepened my knowledge of laboratory equipment and its methods. In the context of my work, I must always keep the fact in mind that the use of equipment places different demands on our laboratory furniture." In addition to the technical contributions, I especially value the exchange of information with our partners in the specialist trade and their junior employees."
LABOSOFT 2015, a comprehensive application program that was developed in cooperation with VGKL members, is specifically tailored to the needs of the laboratory industry. Members can purchase the program from the VGKL. LABOSOFT 2015 is being continuously refined in collaboration with our members and our software partner Perform GmbH in Rossdorf.
The VGKL has a Manufacturers Committee which includes members from the specialist trade as well as from the group of manufacturers. The members of the Manufacturers Committee, who number up to 12, meet regularly to address issues of interest to both economic sectors.
The VGKL publishes regular newsletters to keep its members abreast of important issues in the sector and significant general problems affecting the wholesale trade. Thanks to our proximity to our umbrella organisation, Wholesale, Foreign Trade, Services (BGA), the VGKL has its finger on the pulse of the most important political developments in the sector. In addition, we inform our members about current international calls for tenders and forthcoming trade fairs.
Once a week we inform our members about international calls for tenders. On request, we are happy to provide interested member companies with further details on the calls for tenders.
A typical aspect of the VGKL’s work is that it represents and champions the interests of its member companies. In the process, we make full use of our extensive network. Only in this way can our member companies benefit from their membership in the VGKL.
In 2018, the VGKL’s Business Office in the heart of Berlin celebrated its tenth anniversary at this prime location. The office is a competent partner for VGKL members in all matters and can be reached from Monday to Friday. The VGKL Business Office provides fast, straightforward help in meeting challenges both large and small.

The VGKL benefits from its location at the political centre of Berlin. Thanks to our close – and proverbial - proximity to our umbrella organisation, the BGA, we receive information that is relevant to the wholesale trade without delay. Legislative bills and developments that are of interest to the manufacturing industry also find their way to our desks. Moreover, we do not by any means restrict ourselves to politics in Berlin. The door to Brussels is also open to the VGKL.
Trade fair business is essential for the laboratory sector. Consequently, at the request of our member companies, we inform our members about trade fairs relevant to the sector – whether at home or abroad.
